Sumac Arts began in community and remains rooted there.

Alongside organizational engagements, we maintain an ongoing presence in Columbia, SC and the surrounding region through public workshops, community events, and partnerships with local organizations.

This work is intentionally small in scale and personal in nature. Community settings offer an important space for the practice to evolve organically — where the methodology can be explored, refined, and shared in accessible ways.

Our ongoing home is the Newberry Arts Center, where we offer regular public workshops in mandala drawing, sound meditation, and creative practice, open to anyone interested in exploring the restorative potential of creativity.

We have also had the privilege of partnering with organizations including Richland Library and children's programs across the Midlands, creating opportunities for young people to explore creativity in supportive community spaces.

“I want to take a moment and tell you how much I appreciate what you are doing at NAC. Sunday at church, two ladies approached me to let me know how wonderful your class was, and they both showed me a picture of their art… We love having you do your wonderful creative programs here!”
